Rajrappa coal mining area is a part of the Ramgarh coalfields of Gondwana Basin and surrounded by Bokaro and Hazaribag plateau, and Ranchi plateau of Archean age (Mahadevan, 2002).The Archean rocks forming the basement comprises of gneissic granite, mica schists, augen-gneiss, hornblende-gneiss with pegmatite and quartz veins.
